Austin's Hidden Gem: Tru by Hilton NW Arboretum - Unbelievable Stay!
Austin's Hidden Gem: Tru by Hilton NW Arboretum - Unbelievable Stay!
Tru by Hilton NW Arboretum: Honestly? Utterly Unbelievable! (And a Few Quirks…)
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to gush (and occasionally grumble) about my recent stay at Tru by Hilton NW Arboretum in Austin. I mean, the promise of its "Unbelievable Stay" slogan almost had me rolling my eyes, expecting marketing fluff. But… damn, they weren't lying. This place is legit.
First Impressions: Bright, Bold, and a Little… Overwhelmingly Cheerful.
Stepping into the lobby is like being blasted with a mega-dose of optimism. Seriously. It's all vibrant colors, funky furniture, and a general vibe of "Let's be FRIENDS!" Which, honestly, after a long flight, can be a bit much. But you quickly get used to it. The check-in was effortless (thank you, Contactless check-in/out!) and the staff were genuinely friendly, not just "hotel friendly." They seemed happy. Maybe they're secretly getting paid to be happy? Who knows!
Accessibility - A Big Green Tick! (Mostly)
Let's talk accessibility because, frankly, it's essential. I'm happy to report they’ve nailed it. The Elevator is readily available and spacious. Their adherence to Facilities for disabled guests seems on point - I didn’t personally test every single thing, but the ramps, room layout, and visual aids were definitely present, and based on what I saw online, I have a high degree of confidence in their full commitment to ensuring equal access. Wheelchair accessible pathways are easily available. This is a HUGE win.
Internet: The Lifeblood of the Modern Traveler.
Alright, let's be real: Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! is practically the bare minimum these days, but Tru delivers. The Internet [LAN] access is here too, which is fantastic for those who need a stronger or more secure internet connection. The speeds? Not lightning fast, but perfectly acceptable for streaming and working. Internet access – wireless, Wi-Fi [free], Internet services and Wi-Fi in public areas also are all accessible.
My Room: Clean, Comfortable, and Totally Instagrammable.
I was seriously impressed with my room. It was bright, clean, and surprisingly spacious. The Air conditioning worked like a dream (essential in Austin!), the Blackout curtains were perfect for catching up on sleep, and the Extra long bed was a godsend. I appreciated the thoughtful touches like a Coffee/tea maker and Free bottled water. The Bathroom amenities were great, and the shower had excellent pressure. All the little things – Daily housekeeping, Wake-up service, Desk and Laptop workspace! I also found a Socket near the bed, oh my god, it's the little things that show they think of everything!
Cleanliness and Safety: They're Taking It Seriously!
This is the big one, folks. In these pandemic times, cleanliness is KING. Tru is clearly going above and beyond. The constant Daily disinfection in common areas, the Rooms sanitized between stays, the Professional-grade sanitizing services, the Anti-viral cleaning products. I had zero worries. They even offer a Room sanitization opt-out available. And that Hand sanitizer? Everywhere.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking - Fueled by Optimism (and Coffee).
The complimentary Breakfast [buffet] was… well, it was a buffet. Let's be honest. Solid, with the usual suspects: waffles, eggs, cereal, and pastries. There were Hot water linen and laundry washing available, with an array of Buffet in restaurant and Breakfast takeaway service. They had a Coffee/tea in restaurant which was very handy. The Coffee shop was a nice touch, and the Snack bar came in clutch for late-night munchies. I will say; however, while there were Individually-wrapped food options, there was a general feeling that the food could have been… well, less institutional. They also don't have any on-site accessible restaurants/lounges. A missed opportunity.
Amenities: Gym Rats, Relaxers, and People Who Need a Drink.
Okay, let's delve into the fun stuff. The Fitness center was surprisingly well-equipped, and the Swimming pool [outdoor] looked inviting (though I didn’t manage to take a dip). They've got a Poolside bar, and Happy hour is a thing. I loved the Terrace.
Things to do - Austin is Your Oyster (But Explore Beyond the Pool).
This isn't a criticism of the hotel, but a general observation about Austin: the city is the main attraction. Tru is a solid base for exploring.
The Quirks: Okay, So It's Not Perfect.
- The constant cheeriness. Seriously, it's intense.
- While I appreciate the effort, the in-room art was a little generic. (But hey, at least it's something!)
- No proper spa. While they offer some Body scrub, Body wrap, Massage and a Sauna, it's not a full-blown spa experience.
The Verdict: Go. Book. Now.
Look, if you're looking for a comfortable, clean, and well-located hotel in Austin that won't break the bank, Tru by Hilton NW Arboretum is the bomb. The staff are great, the rooms are comfy, and the cleanliness is top-notch. Yes, there are a few quirks, but honestly, the positives far outweigh the negatives. It's the perfect place to crash after a day of exploring Austin's vibrant scene. I'm already planning my return! Seriously, Unbelievable Stay is more than just a slogan, it's the god-damn truth.
Escape to Paradise: Ascott Riverside Garden Beijing Awaits!Okay, buckle up, Buttercups, 'cause this ain't your grandma's perfectly polished travel itinerary. We're heading to Austin, Texas, baby – and more specifically, the Tru by Hilton Austin NW Arboretum. Let's see if my overbooked, slightly stressed, and perpetually hungry self can survive this!
Day 1: Touchdown and Texan Tango
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Arrival & Hotel Hustle:
- (Hoping) flight lands on time (never happens). Praying my luggage doesn't get… misplaced. Always a gamble, that luggage situation. Found a good deal at Tru by Hilton Austin NW Arboretum. Seems clean, modern, and has a decent breakfast vibe, which is crucial.
- Anecdote: Last time I flew, my bag went to… well, somewhere tropical. Never saw my lucky socks again. Devastating. This time, I packed a backup pair. Victory will be mine!
- Quirky Observation: The hotel lobby is like some sort of minimalist art installation. Bright colors. Sleek lines. I'm pretty sure I saw a robot vacuum cleaner lurking in the corner. I'm already feeling like a tired, crumpled piece of paper. But hey, at least there's free coffee!
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Check-in and Room Reconnaissance:
- Praying for a room not facing the highway. The hotel receptionist seems friendly, so I'm already feeling better. Fingers crossed.
- Emotional Reaction: Oh thank god, a quiet room! (Internal scream of joy). And the air conditioning works. This is already a winning start.
- Minor Category (Room Essentials): Cleanliness: Spot-on. Bed: Firm, perfect. Bathroom: Needs a good light. The TV is huge, but whatever I really need is a nap…
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: First Taste of Austin (and Sweet, Sweet Silence):
- Okay, deep breaths. Time to venture out! Figuring out where to eat. Searching for something tasty and not too heavy, since I am feeling a bit of a food coma.
- Rambling: I'm craving tacos. Seriously, how can you go to Austin and not eat tacos? But there are so many choices. It's overwhelming… and I'm already starting to feel mildly panicked. Maybe I should order room service… but it's probably expensive. Ugh, decisions, decisions!
- Opinionated Language: Okay, I looked around and I'm going to have to go with a recommended taco place. I hate waiting, but I must have that food.
- Messy Imperfection: I found a delicious taco place! I made it, only took me 2 hours to find. The line was long. My patience was tested. Totally worth it.
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Pool Time and Unwinding (Hopefully):
- Head back to the hotel. Swim. Relax. I need this. I really, really need this. Maybe read a trashy novel.
- Stronger Emotional Reaction: Oh my god, the pool is closed! This is a tragedy of epic proportions! I was really looking forward to some pool time before the long day I had for dinner. Fine, I'll just collapse in my bed.
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Dinner and Live Music, Sort Of:
- Try to find a good restaurant. Live music spot. Something with atmosphere. Something that doesn't require me to yell to be heard.
- Stream-of-Consciousness: Okay, I'm starving again. Maybe get takeout. Or order a pizza. Or… no, I have to experience Austin! But the thought of crowds… the noise… I see on the map a pizza place with a good view. Sold. Food before people. Pizza and a view it is!
- Double Down: Pizza was great! The view was amazing! I'm getting a pizza tonight, and I'm bringing it to my room.
Day 2: Exploring and Surviving (Maybe Thriving?)
7:00 AM - 8:00 AM: Breakfast and Fueling Up:
- Free breakfast at the hotel! Assess the damage (AKA, the food options). Grab some coffee. Aim for something healthy – at least, try.
- Quirky Observation: The "healthy" options are probably just a marketing ploy. Still, the coffee smells good, and a mini-waffle is a necessity!
- Minor Category (Breakfast): Coffee: Adequate. Waffles: Small, Delicious. Fruit: Meh.
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Zilker Park Adventure (or Attempted Adventure):
- Zilker Park. Supposed to be beautiful. Plan: Walk. See. Attempt to enjoy the sunshine (if the weather cooperates).
- Anecdote: I tried to bike once… let's just say I'm more of a pedestrian.
- Emotional Reaction: Oh, it's hot. This place is huge! My feet hurt already. Why did I wear those new shoes? But the view… it is pretty. And the dog-watching is phenomenal.
- Messy Imperfection: Got a bit lost. Saw a really cute puppy. Took far too many photos. Forgot my water bottle. Oops.
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Lunch & Retail Therapy:
- Find lunch! Explore some of the shops. Maybe buy something I don't need. Window shopping always welcome.
- Opinionated Language: The shops are alright. I could skip the shopping. I'm hungry. I need more yummy food.
- Stronger Emotional Reaction: This is a bad idea. I don't want to buy anything. I just want to eat! I'm a mess. I feel like I'm supposed to like shopping more. I like food more.
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Museum or Back to the Hotel (Dilemma):
- Museum? Or a nap? Decisions, decisions… my body could use a pick-me-up.
- Rambling: Ugh, the museum sounds interesting, but the thought of standing is really not appealing. Hotel. Nap. Definitely nap.
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Relax. Recharge. Watch Trashy TV:
- Nap. Watch TV. Order takeout. Embrace the hotel life. No guilt.
- Stream-of-Consciousness: Food. TV. Cozy. Relax. Bliss.
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Dinner & More Music (if I feel up to it):
- Might go back to the taco place. Might check out a quieter bar with live music. Play it by ear. Food will be ordered and eaten regardless.
- Double Down: Okay, went back to the taco place. It was just as good as last night. Then, I crashed. All this exploring has been exhausting. Tomorrow… more adventure!
Day 3: Departure & Reflection (and Hopefully, A Smooth Flight)
7:00 AM - 8:00 AM: Breakfast and Packing:
- Same as yesterday. Coffee, waffle, the works. Pack, tidy up the room.
- Minor Category (Packing): Finding my phone is the last thing.
- Quirky Observation: I always leave something behind. Praying it's not something essential this time.
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Last-Minute Souvenir Shopping:
- One last chance to find the perfect souvenir. T-shirt? Keychain? Postcard? Decent coffee.
- Messy Imperfection: Found nothing. Maybe I should have taken the shopping seriously.
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Check Out & Goodbye:
- Check out time! Say goodbye to the friendly hotel receptionist. Hope they enjoyed having me as a guest.
- Stronger Emotional Reaction: Goodbye, Tru by Hilton! You were good to me.
- Rambling: Texas was great! I loved the pizza, the tacos, the music. And even though I felt like a crumpled piece of paper most of the time, I'll be back. No, seriously, I will.
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Journey to the Airport:
- Get to the airport. Pray the flight is on time. Check for last-minute taco stops.
- Stream-of-Consciousness: Please arrive on time. Please don't get lost. Please, please let me survive the airport!
Flight:
- Wish me luck. I'm going to need it.
